The Dandy Newsletter — 08/18/20
I have two pretty big announcements in store for you today. Cue the celebration horns! 🎉
Conquering Your Calendar
I’ve made reference to an instructional series on understanding the basics of how to use a digital calendar as well as a heaping handful of more advanced calendar tips several times before. It’s been a large project and one that’s taken up a good portion of my time. I’m ready to start posting it and I couldn’t be more happy to talk about it here.
Conquering Your Calendar is a five part series of posts that covers, as I said, basic and advanced topics of using a calendar app. The individual parts are as follows:
- Introduction: which is as it sounds. I talk about what to expect in the following four parts and give recommendations for calendar apps to use.
- Creating Calendars: in which I talk about putting calendars into your calendar. Which sounds a little weird, I know. However, to use a digital calendar to its fullest, we need to take advantage of all it can do.
- Making Events: in which we fill up our calendar with context. A calendar without events is, well, nothing much at all. Events are the whole point of a calendar app, so we’ll get to making them.
- Invite Others: in which we collaborate within our calendar. We’re using digital communication devices, so let’s communicate with people. We’ll talk about how to share events with others.
- Sharing, Subscriptions, and Tips: in which we extend the power of our calendar. A digital calendar can do a whole lot more than just show us the date or contain events. We can pack it in with loads of information. I wrap things up with some helpful tips to make your new, more productive life a rousing success.
I’ll be posting part one today and the subsequent four parts every week for the next month and change. These will be paid members only posts, so make sure you sign up for a Dandy Cat Design membership today if you haven’t already. If you have, then you rock!
My plan going forward with this series is to also create an ebook version of the whole thing. I’ll sell that on my website as a standalone purchase. However, a membership will give you immediate access to the Conquering Your Calendar posts as they come out, as well as all the other fabulous paid members only posts.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading it. It occurred to me that there’s a real need for material that can teach people things that might be considered “basic” knowledge by some. I don’t mean that in a disparaging way at all. There’s a need for stuff like this. For example, America’s Test Kitchen’s video on How to Cook Pasta Perfectly has over two and a half million views.
I didn’t learn how to cook properly until my 20s, I didn’t learn all the basic tie knots until my early 30s, and I still don’t know all the intricacies of dealing with finances. I’ve acquired a lot of knowledge by finding good resources online for this information. I want Dandy Cat Design to be a resource like that.
I had a great time making the Conquering Your Calendar series. So great, in fact, that I’m planning on making this a regular occurrence for Dandy Cat Design. It’s always been my intention to offer valuable instructional courses to anyone who wants them. I love that I have the ability to share whatever knowledge I possess about topics that interest me with people who can benefit from it. This is the first major step in making Dandy Cat Design a go-to destination for anyone who’s looking to design and live a more productive life.
I’m also debuting the Dandy Cast podcast today!
I first announced my plans to do this all the way back on June 9 and it brings a grand smile to my face to be able to share its official launch now.
Back in June, I said that I wanted to make an audio version of this newsletter. It had occurred to me that there are people, probably many of them, who don’t necessarily want to read a newsletter. While I might and do, others don’t. Which is fair. What isn’t fair is not providing those people with an opportunity to engage with my newsletter in their preferred fashion.
Well, that’s all changing today!
I’ve been hard at work recording, editing, and publishing episodes of Dandy Cast for your listening pleasure. It’s taken me so long to make this available because I wanted to make episodes dating back to some of the first newsletters, specifically starting from November 19, 2019. That’s when the Dandy Newsletter really found a groove that I’m happy with, so it seemed like a good place to start.
I’ll be releasing those past episodes in groups of about three until I’ve caught up to the present. The podcast feed is going to look a little wonky for a bit, but I’m not going to worry about that. The important thing is you’ll now be able to listen to the Dandy Newsletter if you’d like to.
Please subscribe to it in your podcast player and give it a listen. I’ve got it set to go in many of the most popular players available (and I’m working on getting Spotify going, despite my qualms about them). Head to the Dandy Cast site to subscribe today!
Let me introduce you to my calendar
There’s a new blog post waiting for you. Hip-hip-hooray! 🎉
It’s called (you probably already guessed): Conquering Your Calendar, Part 1: Introduction.
As I mentioned above, I’m debuting the Conquering Your Calendar series starting with part one. It’s the introductory post, which will include:
- What to expect from the entire series.
- What apps I’ll be covering and which ones you should consider using.
- A pretty ridiculous Hagrid from Harry Potter meme.
Click through the link above to start out on your journey of becoming a calendar wizard. I hope you find great value in it and I appreciate your support of both this series and Dandy Cat Design.
If you ever want to throw some suggestions my way, then send me a reply to this email. They’re always wonderful to receive.
Seriously friend, I'd love to hear from you.
Until next time cats, stay informed, stay safe, and stand up for what’s right. Black lives matter and wear a dang mask.
